Hägendorf (Solothurn) The incredibly beautiful Teufelsschlucht (Devil’s Gorge)

Where once a wild band of demons is said to have carried out their nefarious deeds, today a well-built hiking trail guides you through a picturesque gorge. The circular hike from Hägendorf to Allerheiligenberg offers fun and adventure by the water as well as a magnificent view.

The highlights

  • The rugged and romantic Teufelsschlucht (Devil’s Gorge): the Cholersbach stream bubbles over furrowed stone slabs and crashes over metre-high rock faces into the depths below. In between, the river flows calmly towards the drop through wide, yet at most knee-deep pools.
  • Picnic areas: immediately at the entrance to the gorge below, a well-developed rest area is available. Further above are additional picnic areas with firepits.
  • Allerheiligenberg lookout point: from the mountain inn of the same name, you can see not just Olten below, but also the ring of mountains formed by the Alps.
  • Water fountain: the graceful fountain in the upper section of the Teufelsschlucht (Devil’s Gorge) sprays water into the air simply from natural water pressure.
