St. Gallen Bridges and jetties on the Sitter River
The hike along the Sitter River from Haggen to Wittenbach offers exciting contrasts. First, there is an incredible variety of river crossings to discover on the St. Gallen bridge path. Then you follow the course of the river through a magical natural landscape.
- Haggensteg: this intricate lattice framework bridge, nearly 100 meters above the ground, is the highest footbridge in Europe.
- Kubel wooden bridge: due to the many inscriptions on the beams, this covered bridge over the Urnäsch River is also called the “talking bridge”.
- Ganggelibrogg: this suspension bridge with its pretty cast-iron components is a historic gem and has hardly changed since it was built in 1882.
- Ochsenweid and Erlenholz picnic areas: thanks to fixed firepits, this is a great place to rest, barbecue and play near the water.
